Badrinath Temple

Location: Badrinath, on the banks of the Alaknanda River in the Himalayas

According to Hindu tradition, Lord Vishnu meditated here while Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a Badri tree to protect him from harsh weather. The temple is believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Due to heavy snowfall, the temple remains open only for six months each year.
