Baneswar Shiva Temple

Baneswar Shiva Temple is a historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at Baneswar in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal. The temple is situated approximately 10 kilometers north of Cooch Behar town and is an important religious and cultural site in the region. The Shiva Lingam inside the sanctum is positioned approximately 10 feet below the platform level, and devotees descend a flight of stairs to offer prayers. The temple complex is also associated with a large pond known as Shiv Pukur. The pond is home to black softshell turtles, locally called Mohan, which are regarded as sacred by devotees.
