Konark Sun Temple
Location: Konark, near the Bay of Bengal coast
The temple was built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. According to tradition, the temple was designed so that the first rays of the rising sun would strike the main entrance. Although parts of the temple are now in ruins, it remains one of the greatest architectural achievements of ancient India.
