About
Ayyappa Swami is one of the most worshipped deities in South India, especially in Kerala. He is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva and Mohini, the female incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which is why he is called Hariharaputra. According to mythology, Lord Ayyappa was born to destroy the demoness Mahishi and restore dharma on Earth. He was raised by the royal family of Pandalam and was named Manikandan because he wore a divine bell around his neck. Ayyappa Swami is known for his strict discipline, celibacy, courage, and compassion. The Sabarimala Temple in Kerala is the most famous shrine dedicated to him and attracts millions of pilgrims every year. Devotees observe a 41-day vratam involving fasting, simplicity, prayer, and self-control before visiting Sabarimala. Lord Ayyappa teaches equality, devotion, patience, and spiritual purity. His famous chant “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa” reflects complete surrender and faith in the deity. Worshipping Ayyappa Swami is believed to remove negativity, grant protection, inner peace, prosperity, and spiritual strength to devotees.
