Prachin samay ki baat hai. Ek baar Bhagwan Shiv ne Mata Parvati se kaha ki yah sampurn sansar maya hai aur ann ka bhi koi vishesh mahatva nahi hai. Bhagwan Shiv ki yah baat sunkar Mata Parvati ko aashcharya hua. Unhone vichar kiya ki yadi ann ka koi mahatva nahi hai, to sansar ka palan-poshan kaise hoga? Mata Parvati swayam Adishakti hain aur samast praniyon ke jeevan ka aadhar ann hi hai.
Bhagwan Shiv ko ann ke vaastavik mahatva ka gyan karane ke liye Mata Parvati Prithvi se adrishya ho gayin. Unke adrishya hote hi sampurn sansar mein bhayankar akaal pad gaya. Khet sookh gaye, ann ka utpadan band ho gaya aur sabhi jeev-jantu bhookh se vyakul ho uthe. Devta, rishi, manushya aur pashu-pakshi sabhi kasht bhogne lage. Charon or hahakaar aur trahi-trahi mach gayi.
Jab Bhagwan Shiv ne sansar ki yah dayaniya avastha dekhi, tab unhe apni bhool ka ehsaas hua. Unhone Mata Parvati ki khoj prarambh ki khoj karte-karte ve pavitra Kashi nagari pahunche. Wahan unhone dekha ki Mata Parvati Mata Annapurna ke divya swaroop mein virajmaan hain aur apne kar-kamlon se bhookhe logon ko ann vitrit kar rahi hain. Aashcharya ki baat yah thi ki unke bhandar se ann kabhi samapt nahi ho raha tha.
Bhagwan Shiv Mata Annapurna ke charanon mein pahunche aur apni bhool ke liye kshama yachna ki. Tab Mata Annapurna ne swayam apne haathon se Bhagwan Shiv ko bhojan karaya aur samjhaya ki ann hi jeevan ka aadhar hai. Ann ke bina koi bhi prani jeevit nahi reh sakta. Bhagwan Shiv ne Mata ki baat ko sweekar kiya aur sansar ke saamne ann ke mahatva ko maana.
Tabhi se Mata Parvati Mata Annapurna ke naam se poojit hone lagi. Ve ann, dhan, sukh, samriddhi aur kalyan ki adhishthatri Devi maani jaati hain. Aisi maanyata hai ki jo bhakt shraddha, bhakti aur vishwas ke saath Mata Annapurna ki pooja karta hai, uske ghar mein kabhi ann aur dhan ki kami nahi hoti tatha parivaar mein sadaiv sukh-samriddhi aur khushhaali bani rehti hai.
